What is the light meter?
The light meter is the device that measures the electrical energy consumption of a circuit or electrical service. This is essential since each point of supply must have an accountant so that the marketing company can bill the electricity consumed.
There are two types of counters, analog counters as well as digital counters. As for the analogue ones, they do not allow telemetry nor can they be telemanaged, that is why they need an operator to go periodically to read them. Therefore, unlike the first, digital counters allow a quick identification of faults, as well as a management of it without having to go to a technician. And as a key point, they leave behind the estimated readings to give way to real consumption readings.
Therefore, more and more supply points that have digital meters, controlling your electricity consumption and transparency in the collection. And for this reason, the Government has established that before December 31, 2018, the counters must be digital.
Property or rent. Which is the best option?
The meter can be owned and its cost will vary according to the equipment model with an average price of 100 euros. Of which, will be added the cost of installation, administrative costs, as well as replacement in case of future breakdowns. However, it is always more advisable to rent it either because of its lower cost, such as the fact that the distributor will have the obligation of its installation, maintenance and replacement in case of breakdown. In addition, the rates of digital light meter rental are much lower compared to the purchase.
What is te cost of the rent?
But how much do we pay for this equipment rental and control? In the event that you do not have the meter in your possession, to be able to enjoy electricity supply you will be obliged to pay the meter's rent. Therefore, the owner of said accountant will be the distributor, which will demand the payment of the same through the invoices issued by the marketers like ours.
As you can see, on your invoice you will find detailed the cost of renting measuring equipment:
The distributors are responsible for the installation, maintenance and replacement in case of breakdowns without additional cost to that established by law.
The prices are set by the Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda and is regulated by Order IET / 1491/2013, of August 1, which reviews the access tolls for electric power for its application. Said cost is established normatively taking into account the costs of installation, operation and verification.
Here I leave a table on the prices:
